In My Head: I REALLY wish the election were over. The campaigns are barely underway and I’m already so tired of the nastiness and trash-talking and half-truths and barely-truths I can hardly stand it. I think I’ll plead “I just can’t keep track of it; I’m in a doctoral program” whenever politics crops up in discussion, just to keep out of the whole thing.

First day of the doctoral program – so far, so good. I was deeply amused to get into my classroom this morning armed with a dry erase marker and congratulating myself on thinking ahead and realizing there probably wouldn’t be one unless I brought it… only to find I was in one of the few rooms left on American campuses today with nice, long, freshly-washed blackboards! It took a bit of scrambling and a quick-thinking grad TA from the History department to locate some chalk for my 9:00 a.m. class! Needless to say, my new students and I had a great laugh about how they’re just trying to make me feel comfortable by kicking it up Old School. Honestly, if that is the worst thing that happens today, I think we can safely call it a roaring success.
FYI for the future: Your dry erase markers work very well on blackboards. Black and navy blue show up best, of course.
