So, I was informed by a friend of mine that my writing could be interesting enough to tempt others to “borrow” bits and pieces from here and there. Or, even, to “borrow” whole posties. Or, even, in the case of my other creative endeavors, to “borrow” whole artworks. And so forth, blahblahblah – I think we all know what I am getting at.
As far as I am concerned – THAT’S FINE. I put it out there, after all! Clearly, I want it shared with the wider public!
In fact, I am even available for guest blogging – if you have enjoyed something you have seen here and want me to write about a topic (or two, or three, or four!) for your blog – just let me know at madamemedievalist@gmail.com. Otherwise, feel free to re-post, republish, and otherwise widely disseminate anything here that you think others would be interested in reading/seeing.
However, I do reserve the right to get credit for it. For the purposes of this blog and such of its contents as are originally mine, I license (most of) my creative work under the Creative Commons banner.
Creative Commons licensing is an alternative to copyright protection. Essentially, it means that an artist’s work is given protections at his/her discretion. Under this license, I decide whether or not I want to be credited, allow any alterations of my work, and allow or forbid commercial production and distribution of my work.
I am generous by nature; I have no problem sharing. I believe in art for art’s sake and in the sharing and circulation of ideas widely and openly. Please just let me know what of my work you want and what you want to do with it. If you want to/ plan to make any money off of my work, then obviously, I want to/ plan to make some money off of it, also, and we will need to arrange something to accommodate that. If you just think “Hey, that’s cool!” and want to share, then by all means go to town, cut and paste, have a blast. Just make sure you add “This is originally by Melissa Ridley Elmes”, and/or my blog address, or some other little explanation that this was originally mine.
Occasionally, there may be copyrighted material and/or materials I don’t feel like sharing without pay; in this case, I will let you know when you check with me. That will be rare, but it does happen from time to time. So, just double- check the license before you share.

All original work by Melissa Ridley Elmes included in this blog is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.
Thanks for this information. I need to do the same with my blog. I put up the Copyright things but this explains so much better what I, too, believe.
I would like to use the last sentence above or is that at Creative Commons? Of course, I would substitute my name :^)
No, the final sentence is the bare-bones Creative Commons’ suggestion for a statement on the matter – just sub in your name and use exactly as – is.
) feel free to use whatever from that page you would like to – it’s just licensing information, no trade secrets or personal stuff involved! lol
